I can count

This week we have engaged in counting and showing how many.
Children have practiced counting before a transition, we have counted how many friends in our lines, we have counted how many days in school, and we have counted new math manipulatives.

Every day is an opportunity to grow our counting skills in meaningful ways!

Kindergarten Fall learning targets;

I can point to one object at a time.
I can point and say a number for each object.
I can say and show how many in different ways.

We have been in school for five days!
Collect five things in nature using a five frame.

How can you show five?

Counting and showing how many during math choice.

Lines are important!

We build shapes and designs with lines.
We use lines to move through our school; we make a straight line and we curve our line.
We make two lines to line up and then merge our lines together. We follow lines.
We use different kinds of lines to print letters and numbers.

This week we introduced math manipulatives to explore and build with.
We noticed how many lines are needed to build different kinds of shapes.

Each manipulative is introduced through guided discovery and then has a home on our math shelf.

Lyra used what she knows about letters and sounds to make a label for one of our new math manipulatives; exploragons.

Math manipulatives introduced; pattern blocks, geo boards, exploragons, and unifix cubes!
