lines

A line can be...

straight, wavy, zig-zag, curvy, above, below, simple, or complicated.

Why are lines important?

We learn a lot about lines in Kindergarten. We use lines to help us recognize, build, and print letters. We use lines to name and draw shapes. We make lines with our bodies to move in and out of the classroom. Our drawings are made up of different kinds of lines.

We are made of different kinds of lines, too!

We will continue to use our conversations and learning about lines to shape our introduction to letter printing next week.

Lines we learned about, read about, and practiced drawing (starting at the top!)

straight lines
curvy (wavy) lines
zig-zag lines
dotted lines

Through line art we introduced two new classroom materials; sharpies and watercolors.

Drawing lines with scissors!

Artists and mathematicians use lines to explore and show shapes. We talked about how we can draw lines using scissors, like the artist Henri Matisse. We read the true story of Henri Matisse. Matisse used different kinds of lines to cut shapes out of colorful paper. Matisse was a line artist!

I introduced another new classroom tool through this experience; scissors.
