a special visit

The Kindergarteners were inspired earlier this Fall by local author and artist Chris Gluck. Chris wrote the book Art from Nature and used leaves to represent an animal for each letter of the alphabet. Using her as a mentor, the children made their own leaf animal alphabet book.

Our Leaf Animal Book

On Friday we invited Chris to our outdoor classroom. The children worked hard to prepare for her visit. We set up an agenda and practiced reading our pages outside. We generated questions and four Kindergarteners bravely asked Chris our questions.

We wrote Chris kind notes and made a copy of our book pages to give to her. When writing her kind notes, we thought about what she might like on her note; leaves and animals!

Chris shared many gifts with us; her love for nature, beautiful art prints for our classroom, detailed cards, and kindness. As Chris was sharing, Izzy leaned close and whispered, I really like her.

We felt the warmth of her kindness all day and we will continue to be inspired by her when hiking in the woods and creating in the classroom.

Thank you, Chris!
