We have worked together to develop a culture of storytelling. We make connections through the sharing of stories during morning meeting and we learn from the stories we read together. We tell stories through our play, structures, art, and writing. We use the words first, next, then and finally to plan a story and we bring our stories to life with details like labels, action marks, and sounds.
Snow Stories
We have been sharing snow stories from school and home. The children used pictures to help tell their snow stories. Then we used tools (our classroom, tiles, alphabet charts, and sight words) to add three labels to our pictures. Our labels helped to show where our stories took place (the snow!) and who was there.
Academic Choice
We share stories through our play and structures. We can tell the story of a lego structure with our words and we can write a little lego story using pictures and words! We can build stories with story cubes and cards, using the pictures to tell colorful (and funny) stories!
Writer's Workshop
We have been sharing, planning, and writing true stories. The children use pictures and words to tell their stories across pages, adding detail to their pictures and using their knowledge of sounds and letters to write labels and sentences.
100 Things We LOVE!
Our interests, likes, dislikes, and beliefs are part of our unique stories. For the 100th Day of Kindergarten we used pictures and words to show 100 things we LOVE on sticky notes.
Through the sharing of things we love we made connections and learned new things about our community- even after being together for 100 days! Did you know that Elsie and Kiera both love chinchillas? Did you know that Eleanor loves bacon?
On Friday we counted the 100 sticky notes. Our collection of things we love will stay in our classroom, inviting our community to learn more about one another long after the 100th day of school.
