grow, seed, grow!

This week we continued to think like scientists during spring, the season of growth. We engaged with books about seeds and the life cycle of a seed. The children used what they learned and pictures and words to show what most seeds need to grow; sun, clean air, rain, and soil.

Our reading, reflecting, and written response connected our learning as scientists and our work using sound power to add more and more words to our writing.

We further explored the needs of seeds through the reading and performing of a new poem; the little seed. We used our reading powers to find familiar sight words, highlight sounds and noticings, and we used the pictures and meaning of the poem to decode the rest of the words. Once we figured out the words, the readers reread the poem, using physical motions to perform each part.

On Wednesday we worked with two parent volunteers, Leanne and Ashley. We planted seeds to grow indoors and we worked to clean up our community garden, a space the children will return to as first graders!

Spring flower art continues to be a beloved choice during academic choice. The children have painted colorful representations of blooming flowers, practicing various line work and watercolor techniques.
