oh no, george!

We have read a collection of Chris Haughton's work this year. During our first days of school we read Don't Worry, Little Crab and in the recent weeks we have engaged with Shh! We Have a Plan, Little Owl Lost, Oh no, George! and Maybe...

The readers have used their book talk power to think about each story; making predictions, describing characters, using evidence to discuss character feelings, retelling and making connections to their own experiences.

We fell in love with Oh no, George! and connected much of our learning this week to the story.

Morning Meeting

We used pictures and words from the story to engage our sound power during morning meeting. The children were invited to draw a picture or write a word that rhymes with cat (reinforcing the middle short vowel sound) and to draw a picture or write a word that rhymes with cake (reinforcing the middle long vowel sound).

Fundations

During Fundations we explored a sentence from the text, noticing sight words and using all of our reading powers to point and read. We noticed how Chris Haughton made the word LOVE big and bold, so we made sure to read with expression, sounding just like George; but I LOVE cake!

Reader's Workshop

During Reader's Workshop the children reread the sentence on a sentence strip. They carefully cut out the 11 words and glued them to a canvas, rereading to check for accuracy. Finally, we used picture power to show George looking at the cake.

What will George do?
