We can name letters!
We can listen for letter sounds.
This week we have practiced and reinforced our growing knowledge of learned letter names and sounds in many different ways. We have supported the transfer of children's knowledge about the letters t, b, and f across learning. During choice, many children have built structures and have used sticky notes to label their structures using beginning sounds.
1. Listening for letter sounds through our morning message work and finding things on the trail that begin with the letter sounds that we're learning;
berries, branch, flower, ferns, Brookside, trail!
2. Transferring knowledge of letter names and sounds into our choices and play.
Isabella built a flower out of pattern blocks and excitedly wrote the label; f!
Autumn built part of the alphabet using exploragons and then built a fox and wrote the label; f!
A new beloved choice- letter puzzles- has provided additional practice identifying and naming letters as well as listening for letter sounds at the beginning of words.
Kiera made a little bird's nest and drew a picture of a bird with the label b.
3. Building the letters Bb and Ff on the trail!
4. Using what we know about letter names and beginning sounds to work on and read My Book of Letter Ff.
