we are readers!

The Kindergarteners have been reading since the first day of school. They read their names and the names of peers when they sign in, they read the schedule and the morning message, they read labels on our many shelves, and they read from a collection of books at their tables. This week we launched a special time in our day to celebrate reading; reading workshop. Reading workshop is special, but we know that we are readers all day and that we grow as readers in many different ways.

We can look, we can think, we can read!

We have labels and signs all around our classroom. When we introduce a new material or choice, it has a label and a place. This week the children spent time looking around our classroom for things that they can read; labels, signs, our choice board, and names.

Readers read their world, noticing different things they can read, like labels, signs, and pictures.
Readers also read different kinds of books, storybooks and teaching books. Teaching books teach you about a topic, giving you information. We learn from teaching books.

We can learn!

The Kindergarten readers have practiced private and partner reading with a collection of teaching books!
